Safe swimming in the sea
Along with the flags in different colors indicate whether it is safe to swim in the sea. These beach flags are only available in places where there is a lifeguard. With effect from 2010, the beach flags have been adjusted in accordance with international agreements and all beaches will be transferred to the new flags this year at the latest.
The meaning of the beach flags
The orange windsock
You can swim here, but the use of floating objects such as dinghies, air mattresses, and swimming rings is prohibited due to the risk of drifting.
The yellow flag
It is – usually because of bad weather conditions – too dangerous to bathe or swim. Swimming with floating objects is also prohibited.
The red flag
It is absolutely forbidden to bathe or swim.
Red-yellow flag
The area between two red-yellow flags is a guarded zone. Lifeguards keep watch within this zone. Water sports with surfboards, kites, sailing, or motorboats are prohibited in this zone.
Black and white checkered flag
In the zone between the two black and white checkered flags, you are allowed to practice water sports.
Question mark flag
A child has been found.
Did you think that in Valencia you can only cool off in the sea? Wrong!
Fortunately, we have many more options here than just the beach to brave the heat. Also a stone’s throw from the city: almost wild nature where you can take a dip.
Without compromising on our fantastic beaches, we have put together a guide with other places that are not located by the sea and where you can enjoy your holiday.
We have selected rivers, pools, fountains, and waterfalls not far from the capital. Places where time seems to stand still, with a rejuvenating effect.
To make things a little easier for you, we’ve arranged them from near the city to further away. So plenty of opportunities to take a refreshing dip in the summer.
Before we give you those tips, we would of course ask you to take good care of nature everywhere.
Preserving our environment is always everyone’s business; take your good habits with you on vacation!
Ok, now for those special dives. Fire up your browser, here we go.
